Attended the first UK east coast digital conference today the KC Stadium and just in short FANTASTIC Jon!

Speakers as follows and briefs I my add to over the next few days:

  • Rory Cellan-Jones - Very real, down to earth, and surprisingly quite funny
  • Jaan Orvet - Calm, controlled, great ideas about nodes and how projects should or could be worked
  • Charles Arthur – Great tips on how to get noticed by journalists with stories or exclusives
  • Stuart McFarlane -
  • Mike Butcher – Bursting at the seams this guy, so much to say and share. Could have a pint or spend a week with this guy and NOT get bored.
  • Rob Palmer – Web guy from Newcastle, great design skills and ideas. Hope he has the balls to go it alone some day full time. Good luck Rob!
  • Kai Gates -
  • Karen Barber – Despite a tech glitch at the beginning, she sort of enlightened us all to new ideas and Audio Boo in general
  • Anand Verma – He has his fingers on the pulse of what not to do and what to do in the digital market place. Very watchable.

A lot of it that was said I knew a fair bit about but the main part of the whole day I’d take on board is “Got and idea? Go for it! Make it real.” This is directed at Jon and his teams efforts.

He had a vision and went for it! I do think a lot of it was down to who he knows. This follows true in life all the time, but if you have an idea, talk to people ask for help, go to Hull Digital meetups and don’t look back.

Jon is sending out questionnaires I think for feed back but

Been behind a laptop day in, day out, is not good people and so a 118 mile, and a 2 hour road trip to Chester Zoo was a breath of fresh air.

I hate travelling in cars for hours on end and wasn’t TBH looking forward to today’s hike. Set off around 9:30am after munching our bacon butties and a mug of tea. Lights on half way there through the typical rain, mist and crazy arse fools on the M62/M60 who think 100mph lane weaving is fine.

Arrived at Chester to no lines of people waiting to get in (result – Well it is October) and brightening blue skies.

Great list of animals to see, fab day away with family & friends and not sat in front of the face light that is ‘my laptop’

Final thought…. What would come up at Asda if they scanned the zebras at the checkout?

Well many mini, client, affiliation, e commerce websites and moons later I manage to start/setup my own personal blog! I did nearly buy Blogster.co.uk (free to reg) and was in two minds whether to use that a year or so ago – but posted it on a forum and was snapped up.

I guess this is going to be a white board for my thoughts from now on and hope I don’t type visitors to sleep.

To be honest I think it was James Greenwood’s @ Strawberry Digital, Doug Scott’s @ ASAP Ventures (need to update yours soon Doug) and Lee Owen’s Blog’s that pushed me on to setting this up. Not directly, but found myself nodding and grinding my teeth when James had a rant at Karoo on Posterous.com.

So people let the games begin…….
